Umrah is derived from I'timar, which means to visit or intend. The meaning of performing Umrah in the intention of the House is that it was specifically designated for this purpose because it was intended to do work in a populated place. Therefore, the person performing Umrah is called a Mu'tamir. In Islamic law, it is a visit to the Sacred House, and circumambulation and running between the Ka'bah and Makkah with known conditions. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed Umrah four times in his life, and it can be performed at any time of the year. The correct view is that it is obligatory once in a lifetime, as Allah the Almighty says: {And complete the Hajj and Umrah for Allah.}
